THE END OF THE LINE FOR GARY SHEFFIELD?

No, those arent the stats of Brandon Inge. Those are the stats of the mighty Gary Sheffield.

And maybe its time for Sheff to call it quits or at the very least, take a reduced role with the Tigers. Hitting in the three spot is not helping the team. In fact, a strong argument can be made that Sheffield is doing more harm than good right now. There are games where he struggles to even get the ball out of the infield.

Could this be injury? More than likely. But let's not kid ourselves, a body ravaged by Steroids and God knows what other Performance Enhancing Drugs falls apart after time.

The argument that Sheff still sees a ton of pitches and draws walks just doesn't hold water anymore. Guys don't hit in the three hole because they see 10 pitches and then beat the ball into the ground to the SS.

I'd take a guy who can homer more than once every 63 ABs. Hell, if I wanted that in a Tigers Uniform, we should have resigned Sean Casey.

This team is not devoid of talent. A number of guys could step into the third spot and produce. Carlos Guillen, Curtis Granderson, and even an Edgar Renteria.

So maybe this rant should be directed more at Manager Jim Leyland. Maybe he doesn't want to displease one of his guys?

Hmmm?
